Bye Bye Bye Windows
For several months I had planned to make a change of Operating System for my non-ham radio tower computer. I had purchased a couple of portable Multi TeraByte Portable Hard Drives and a 138 TB SSD drives to backup that computer.
During a September thunderstorm a nearby lightning strike fried the motherboard in that main computer. The strike didn't bother my router, television or my Ham Radio computer. It is weird how electricity can effect some items but not others.
Like many of you, I've become tired of Windows restarts happening right in the middle of something I'm doing. I'm finally making the switch to the Raspberry Pi OS for Windows.
I'm disappointed with myself in respect that in aging I've gotten used to some of the conveniences of today's technology. And one of those has been becoming too comfortable with MicroSoft and Windows. As a result; my programming skills have eroded over the years and I have spent most of this summer trying to replenish some of the knowledge that has laid dormant in my brain over the years.
I've squandered on using a few Raspberry Pi devices in my possession for several years and just began putting them into service in my portable ham radio operating and at home. I figured I'd keep everything K.I.S.S and switch my Ham Radio Computer, My Panasonic Toughpad and several laptops over to the Raspberry Pi OS. No sense in making things complicated for this older Ham Radio Operator. I'll keep one laptop with Windows 10 simply because there are some software programs (Genealogy Software) that are not Linux compatible. And I won't be purchasing another desktop computer for a long, long, long while
How will I use some of my Raspberry Pi's in my portable Ham Radio operations? I'll explain in my next blog post.
Less Filling - Less Weight Ham on a Bike

Welcome to the Linux community! I run Linux on all of my personal computers (Ham and non-Ham). I have one Windows computer for the same reason you do; I haven't found a alternative to the windows application. There is more software available than ever before.
